Are you looking for inspiration for a city trip? This article discusses four cities that can surprise you with a city trip, such as Dubai, Florence, Seville and Milan.
Florence, city of the Renaissance
Florence is the city that had its heyday in the Renaissance. In this heyday, beautiful buildings were built in Florence, of which the Florence Cathedral has become the absolute highlight of the city of Florence. Be sure to climb Brunelleschi's 115-meter high dome for a beautiful view of the Tuscan city. The art lover should visit the Uffizi, a museum in the Palazzo degli Uffizi with numerous ancient sculptures and paintings by Italian masters. Furthermore, Florence is known for its beautiful palaces, such as the Palazzo Vecchio on Piazza della Signoria and the Pitti Palace with the adjacent Boboli Gardens. Via the beautiful Ponte Vecchio, the old bridge over the Arno river, you reach the other bank of the city. For example, you can continue walking to Piazzale Michelangelo for a wonderful panorama over Florence. The city has plenty to offer to keep you entertained during a city trip of a few days.
The Moorish Sights of Seville
Love holidays in Spain? Then visit the city of Seville in Andalusia. In the warm south of Spain you will get a city break full of historical sights. The two top attractions are the Real Alcazar de Sevilla, or the royal palace in Moorish style and the huge Cathedral of Seville with the Moorish La Giralda tower, where you can enjoy a beautiful view. The other attractions are at the Maria Luisa city park, where the Spanish square 'Plaza de España' with the beautifully processed 52 Spanish provinces is located. You can enjoy the skyline of Seville from the wooden roof terrace of the Metropol Parasol with a good glass of wine. Furthermore, it is a city where you especially want to wander through the many narrow streets in the historic center of the city. An absolute gem in Andalusia!
Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
If you have a little more time for a city trip, Dubai is a must to visit. The oil state is about a five-hour flight from Amsterdam and has plenty of activities and sights to offer, so you can easily spend a week here. Due to the warm, sunny weather (tip: don't go in the summer months, when it gets really hot) you can enjoy the beautiful beaches almost all year round, but the main reason to visit Dubai is because the city has the extreme places of interest in Dubai. Such as the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world or the huge shopping center The Dubai Mall with the adjacent largest fountain show in the world. But the artificially created islands such as Palm Jumeirah and the most luxurious hotel in the world (Burj Al Arab) also appeal to the imagination of many tourists. The entire emirate revolves around entertaining tourists, so there's no shortage of theme parks, shopping centers and other impressive sights.
Milan, more than shopping
An often underrated destination for a city trip is Italian Milan. However, the city has so much more to offer than just shopping in the luxury shopping streets such as the Galleria Vittorio Emanuelle II and the Golden Quadrangle. The enormous Duomo di Milano is one of the most beautiful churches in Italy and the art lover has a must-see with Da Vinci's The Last Supper. A less logical sight is the monumental cemetery with impressive funerary monuments. Church enthusiasts also visit the San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore and the bizarre bone chapel of the San Bernardino alle Osse. Other places of interest in Milan include the San Siro football stadium, the Colonne di San Lorenzo, the La Scala Theater and the Pinacotheque of Brera in Milan's artists' quarter.
